“Les Eaux Assises” – An Indian Chant
An ancient song resonates through time, carried by the breath of the duduk. “Les Eaux Assises” is a series of 35 paintings (45 x 65 cm), created with acrylic and Indian ink on paper between 2002 and 2003. A work where the memory of a disappearing people is captured in matter, preserving the ephemeral before it vanishes.
The voices rise:
Sisi ya
Yuwa sisi ya
Asa korama
Nana sisi wow
Nana sisi wowo
Eeeeehhhhhhhh
Today, perhaps, they have already disappeared…
A fragile territory, a threatened culture, an artistic expression as the ultimate witness. “Les Eaux Assises” invites us to listen, to feel, to remember.
