François Lelong: A Unique Connection with Nature
François Lelong, an artist with a deep passion for human sciences, natural history, and archaeology, has established a unique bond with nature. His journey began with creating sculptures and installations in the landscape, utilizing elements collected from the environment and deeply connected to the places he explores. Through this foundational experience, Lelong developed a keen sensitivity to natural materials and became aware of the intricate interdependencies between humans, animals, and their surroundings. This connection with nature and place is at the core of his studio creations today.
An Artistic Approach Rooted in Nature
Like ancient hunter-gatherers, François Lelong collects materials from nature, preserving them meticulously until the vision of the sculpture they will become emerges. His sophisticated craftsmanship brings these materials to life, creating unique sculptures that blend forest animals, wild elements, and human figures with vegetation. These hybrid figures, rooted in a long-standing artistic tradition, highlight the relationships within the living world, reminding us of the shared origins of humans and animals often deemed “wild.”
