๐ Marco Valoti: A Nomadic Artist with a Vision for Collective Creativity ๐จ
Born near Verona in 1954, Marco Valoti describes himself as a “nomad, a world citizen, and the eternal outsider.” His journey through life has been one of constant movement and transformation, marked by encounters with diverse cultures and artistic pursuits.
A Life Shaped by Travel and Art
Valotiโs early years took him from Milan during the 1970s, a time of labor struggles, to the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, grappling with its cultural identity. In 1985, alongside Michelangelo Gonzato and Ramos de la Fuente, he co-founded the Spostamentista Artistic Movement in Lugano, aiming to explore collective creativity and challenge traditional artistic taboos.
“We wanted to break the fear surrounding artistic creation, open the doors of our studios, and invite public participation.”
A Global Journey of Creativity
From Mexico to the Middle East, the USA, Spain, Ukraine, Cuba, and the Pacific Islands, Valoti immersed himself in local cultures, rejecting mass tourism in favor of authentic connections. His sketchbooks are filled with observations and reflections gathered from these experiences.
“I despise mass tourism that pollutes and corrupts souls.”
Valotiโs work is deeply engaged with social issues, seeking not passive contemplation but active engagement from viewers. His art is a tool for dialogue, using innovative techniques to convey messages of memory, dignity, and resistance.
The Spostamentista Movement: Breaking Artistic Barriers
Initially focused on studio work between 1984 and 1986, the movement soon expanded to public spaces. Performances such as The Miraculous Catch, The Return of the Storytellers, and TelepaticArt Performance marked key milestones in their journey to connect collective creation with everyday life.
Key Milestones of the Spostamentista Movement
- October 1985: Foundation of the movement in Origlio, Switzerland.
- February 1987: First collective exhibition in Lugano Paradiso with over 40 large-format paintings.
